Saturday: Vettel and Red Bull Confident for the Race
Sebastian Vettel clinched his third consecutive pole position in Montreal, and the German driver believes he is in a good position for tomorrow's race. Mark Webber hoped for better than his 5th place on the grid, but the Australian expects to have an interesting race.
Sebastian Vettel – 5th and 1st:
It was very difficult today, especially because you didn’t know what the conditions would be like on your next lap on track. We had intermediates throughout, but it was hard to adapt to constantly changing conditions. In the final part of qualifying, we decided to do two runs; we thought the second one would be faster since we had new tires, but there were a few drops in the last sector, especially at the chicane. I did well on my first lap but made a mistake on the next, so ultimately, the first run was the most important. I’m glad my lap was enough, as it was close with Lewis. Congratulations to Valtteri [Bottas], I think he did a very good job by putting the Williams in 3rd position. As for us, I’m really pleased with the result and looking forward to the race tomorrow. I think we had good pace yesterday so regardless of the conditions, we should be in good shape.
Mark Webber 1st and 5th:
« It has been difficult for everyone. It’s a bit of a mixed grid and I would have liked to be a bit better than 5th, but in the end, that’s where we are. It will be long tomorrow, so we’ll see how it ends. Bottas did a good job and it should be an interesting Grand Prix. Dry conditions tomorrow are better for everyone because it makes things more predictable and realistic, and the visibility here is not great when it rains. »
