Schumacher could have stayed in F1 if he had fought for the title in 2012

Michael Schumacher, the most successful driver in Formula 1 and holder of many records in the sport, retired permanently at the end of last season. Since then, the seven-time world champion has frequently spoken in the media to express that he does not regret his decision.

The German newspaper Bild thus once again shares his very recent remarks. However, he admits that if he had had a single-seater allowing him to compete for the title, his outlook might have been different: « If I had had the opportunity to fight for the world championship last year, then maybe my decision would have been different. But I am very happy. Now I am a private television commentator on my couch for my wife Corinna », he jokes.

That said, after more than twenty years in the discipline, he still keeps in touch with many people: « A few people at Mercedes and Ferrari allow me to stay in the loop with some comings and goings behind the scenes. But it’s not like I’m interested in everything. »

Schumacher recently reconnected with Formula 1 for a demonstration aboard a 2011 Mercedes on the legendary Nordschleife circuit. This led the German driver to say: “I don’t think this will be the last time you’ll see me behind the wheel of a silver arrow.”
