No new Pirelli tires at Silverstone after all

Initially, Pirelli was supposed to introduce new tires in Canada, but following the secret test conducted with Mercedes, the Italian manufacturer backtracked. It proposed that new tires be tested during the free practice sessions on Friday in Montreal with a view to introducing them at the next Grand Prix held at Silverstone.

However, this will not happen, as Pirelli announced in a statement: « [For the upcoming Grand Prix], the tire construction will remain unchanged, contrary to Pirelli’s initial plans. »

The Milan manufacturer faced the refusal of several teams to see the tires modified during the season: « The decision is due to the fact that the new tires, which were brought for free practice on Friday in Canada, were not tested sufficiently because of the rain – and because the teams could not unanimously agree on implementing these changes. »

The Ferrari, Lotus, and Force India teams had publicly opposed any modification of the tires during this season, and it is highly likely that at least these three teams vetoed this change.

Following the tire delamination issues encountered by several drivers including Paul di Resta in Barcelona, Pirelli has made a modification: Instead, a change in the tire production process should now ensure that the delamination problem is resolved.
