Dietrich Mateschitz reportedly made an offer to Mark Webber
As speculation runs high regarding the allocation of the second Red Bull seat for the 2014 season, Dietrich Mateschitz, the CEO of the Austrian firm, is said to have personally offered Mark Webber to extend his contract for an additional season.
Since the Malaysian Grand Prix and the multi 21 affair, the relationship between Sebastian Vettel and his teammate Mark Webber has been very tense. From that moment on, many rumors have circulated about a possible change within the team, either during the season or more likely next year.
If Sebastian Vettel has recently extended his contract until 2015, the questions are now turning towards Mark Webber. Announced at Porsche at Le Mans in 2014, no confirmation has yet come from the Australian or his entourage.
But, a few hours ago, the German magazine Auto Bild announced that Dietrich Mateschitz personally offered Mark Webber a one-year contract extension. We are aware of the good relations between the two men, as the Australian driver recently confirmed: « I will continue to be in contact with him regarding my ideas for the future, my energy level, and my motivation, which remain intact at this level. »
According to the Australian, everything will depend on his personal choice: « The ball is quite firmly in my court. »
Red Bull and Christian Horner previously stated that a final decision on their driver duo would be made during the summer. The names Kimi Räikkönen, Jean-Eric Vergne, and Daniel Ricciardo are frequently mentioned to support Sebastian Vettel in 2014.
