Friday: A Nice Surprise for Toro Rosso

After watching Jean-Eric Vergne deliver two strong performances in Monaco and Canada, Toro Rosso did not know what to expect on a very different track. But Daniel Ricciardo proved that his car is fast in the rain, while both drivers also showed good things in dry conditions.

Friday: A Nice Surprise for Toro Rosso

Daniel Ricciardo – 1st and 6th:

« I decided to do a few laps in the rain this morning, as I felt the track was quite safe and you can always learn something in these tricky conditions, and I think I made the fans happy! This afternoon, we were quite good on the dry track, we had a good stint with the hard tires and improved further with the mediums. In any case, I hope our long runs will be better, so we definitely have work to do tonight, but overall it was a good day. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – 7th and 7th:

« This afternoon, as soon as I left the garage, I could tell that the car felt very good. It was quite easy to go fast, and my lap times were good. This doesn’t mean we should lose focus, far from it, and we will work hard tonight to look at all the data to see how we can improve. I feel like I have a chance to achieve a good result here for the rest of the weekend. Arriving at this track, which is so different from the last two we’ve driven on, I would say that today’s performance was a pleasant surprise. »
