Saturday: Mercedes locks out the front row at Silverstone
Lewis Hamilton delivered an incredible lap to secure the 28th pole position of his F1 career. The British driver edged out his teammate Nico Rosberg for an all-Mercedes front row. Both men hope to perform equally well in the race to achieve an excellent result.
Lewis Hamilton – 2nd and 1st:
« It’s incredible to be on pole, just like in 2007. We have the best Formula 1 fans in the world here in England and there were a lot of people today, which makes the atmosphere always so special. My lap in Q3 was a lap for the fans present at the circuit. I haven’t been very comfortable with the car all weekend, so I’m really happy to put in a good lap and it’s really fantastic. The team did a phenomenal job and it’s a great reward for everyone present at the circuits and in our factories, especially since they are close to the circuit. But we know that tomorrow will be another day and our performance on Sunday is not so good at the moment. Our pace on long stints seemed good yesterday and we were able to manage our tires quite well. It will be hard to keep Seb [Vettel] behind but we will give it our all. »
Nico Rosberg – 1st and 2nd:
« A fantastic team result today and it’s nice to see how much we’ve progressed since last year. The feeling of confidence in the speed of our car during qualifying is fantastic and I love driving knowing that we’re in the fight for a good position on the grid. The team is doing a fantastic job and we are continuing development so a big thank you to everyone in our factories, many of whom were present today to watch us. My lap was good and starting from the front row is nice but Lewis did a fantastic job today. I hope we’ve improved our race pace; it will be about managing the tires tomorrow and keeping the others behind us. I am confident that we can achieve a good result. »
