Saturday: The Sauber simply not fast enough
No Sauber driver managed to make it to Q3, and worse still, the best - Nico Hülkenberg - could only manage 15th place on the grid. The German driver can only acknowledge the shortcomings of his car. Esteban Gutiérrez is happy with his progress but must also contend with an underperforming car.
Nico Hülkenberg – 14th and 15th:
« Unfortunately, this 15th place is the reality. It was more or less the best we could do today. The car was difficult to drive, especially at high speed, and with a little wind, the car is very sensitive. We’re just not fast enough. Obviously, a lot of things can happen tomorrow in the race, and maybe a little English rain could help us. But I think points will be difficult [to reach], but again, you never say never. »
Esteban Gutiérrez – 17th and 18th:
« Compared to yesterday’s free practice sessions, I think we’ve taken a step forward, but it was difficult because we are in a position where everything is on the limit. No matter what we do, there’s always a compromise, which is a real challenge. It seems like I’m losing a lot of time on corner exit, which is tricky because usually I try to attack and things happen. I think I did my best with pretty consistent laps. But it wasn’t fast enough. It’s something we need to study and see how we can improve to be better ranked. »
