Sunday: A Lotus error costs Räikkönen a podium
Kimi Räikkönen seemed well on his way to securing a podium today at Silverstone, but the Finnish driver ultimately had to settle for 5th place. As for Romain Grosjean, he retired one lap from the finish due to a problem with his front wing.
Kimi Räikkönen – 5th:
« I tried to resist towards the end of the race, but with tires that maybe had 20 or more laps than the others, it was impossible to keep them behind. It’s a shame because the race had gone well until then; we had a good pace and seemed well set to easily finish in 2nd place, but that’s motorsport. It’s now been three races that we haven’t achieved the expected results, but hopefully with a bit more luck, we can correct these mistakes and be able to return to the forefront. »
Romain Grosjean – 19th:
Towards the end of the race, we lost a large part of the front wing, which made driving difficult, so in the end it was preferable to retire for safety reasons. We don’t know if it was caused by debris or something related to a new part; we will work to find the cause of the problem. Before that, my race didn’t really go as planned, and we struggled with the tires. It was related to our front wing issue that started earlier in the race. The safety car interventions didn’t go our way, so it’s a race I’d rather forget. Now on to Germany and hopefully a better weekend.
