Räikkönen erases Schumacher from the record books

Kimi Räikkönen finished in 5th place at the British Grand Prix, and it’s an event, even if it was largely overshadowed by tire issues. Indeed, with this new points finish, the Finnish driver now has 25 consecutive points finishes, thus erasing the previous record of 24 consecutive points finishes held by Michael Schumacher.

The 2007 world champion has not finished outside the top 10 in a Grand Prix since Bahrain 2012. Michael Schumacher’s record, on the other hand, covers the period 2001-2003 when only six drivers scored points in 2001 and 2002, a number that increased to eight in 2003.

The Lotus driver still has a few races ahead of him this year – maybe next year – to try to improve this record.

It is also interesting to note that Sebastian Vettel’s retirement, due to a gearbox problem, ends a streak of 14 consecutive points finishes for the Red Bull driver – tied for the 9th best streak in F1 history alongside Mark Webber’s run from the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix to the 2011 Belgian Grand Prix.
