Saturday: Ricciardo and Toro Rosso in Q3 again
Daniel Ricciardo delivered another performance today in Germany by qualifying 6th on the grid. The Australian driver hopes to take advantage of this to achieve a good result tomorrow. Jean-Eric Vergne, on the other hand, had more difficulty but hopes things will change tomorrow.
Daniel Ricciardo – 16th and 6th:
« I am really delighted with how the qualification went and it’s very encouraging to be sixth for the second race in a row, which means we are seeing signs of progress and consistency. However, it hasn’t been as straightforward here as it was at Silverstone last week and we really had to push to set a time and be in Q3. We exceeded our expectations because in free practice 3 we weren’t that strong. I was particularly pleased with my lap in Q2. I think we did our best today and we are looking forward to the race. Last week, I felt we could do better than 8th and I would like to do better than 7th, which is my best result so far. If there’s a chance for a podium, let’s go for it! Nothing is impossible. The tire strategy will be very interesting with a few drivers in the top 10 on Mediums. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 14th and 16th:
« We simply weren’t fast enough this afternoon. All weekend, my car has been very difficult to drive and the situation hasn’t improved since Friday, and I couldn’t manage a good lap. During qualifying, I didn’t make any mistakes and was hoping for more. Even though we can’t work on the car before the race, we need to understand exactly what caused this drop in performance. Maybe it’s related to the tires, their temperature, or the pressure, but I’m not sure. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow, where I hope to be more competitive and able to push harder. »
