Sunday: There is still work to be done at Ferrari
Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa are not really happy with their finishing positions in Hungary, but the Spanish driver believes that it was probably the best he could do today. Ferrari drivers hope that the work done until Spa will pay off and improve the performance of the F138.
Fernando Alonso – 5th:
By finishing 5th today, maybe we did better than what was within our reach, because Mercedes, Lotus, and Red Bull were faster than us, which we had already seen during Friday’s practice sessions. This race marks the end of what has been a difficult month for us, and with Silverstone and Nürburgring, it’s part of a cycle where we weren’t at the level. However, looking at the points obtained, we haven’t lost too much and today, Hamilton and Räikkönen helped us ensure that the gap with Vettel didn’t increase too much. From now on, our goal is to work hard to arrive at Spa and Monza with a more competitive car. There are still nine races left and the available points are more than sufficient. The team can do it and the potential is there, so I see no reason why we can’t fight until the end of the championship, as we always have.
Felipe Massa – 8th:
Today’s race was difficult from start to finish because right from the first lap, at turn 5, after colliding with Rosberg, I lost the left part of the front wing. At that moment, stopping to change the wing would have cost me precious time, so we didn’t come in, but from that point on, the car’s balance was no longer the same, and I lost some performance, suffering a lot from understeer and oversteer, and my tires degraded more than they should have. I clearly can’t be happy with this 8th place because in the race and in qualifying, we lacked the pace to fight at the front. For several reasons, this track doesn’t suit our car, but precisely because things can change from one track to another, we absolutely have to stay focused. From here on, we will focus on development and preparation for the second part of the championship where I hope we will be more competitive.
