Friday: Pérez believes that rain would be beneficial for his McLaren
As the second part of the season begins, Sergio Pérez wants to reverse the trend seen during the first 6 months. The Mexican showed his skills during the two practice sessions and finished far ahead of his teammate.
Sergio Perez – 4th and 8th:
« Today, we had a very good first session, but the second was more difficult. It was a bit of a surprise for us because this morning the car seemed very strong and very fast, and I was very happy with the balance. But this afternoon, it was a bit less consistent. However, we have a lot of information to analyze now, in order to understand what’s happening with the car, to try to improve it, and hopefully, we will do a good job for tomorrow and Sunday.
With a bit of luck, the weather will help us, because personally I would prefer to race in wet or variable conditions, which we always know is possible here at Spa.
Jenson Button – 14th and 15th:
« For me, free practice 1 was very good, and I was very satisfied with the car. The balance was good and I think our pace was too. I didn’t push very hard in the wet sectors, but in the dry sector, it was very good.
This afternoon, however, it was different. It is evidently the result of higher temperatures, and perhaps also the wind, so we have work to do to understand why it happened this way. Hopefully, the work we will do will improve things for tomorrow.
After having said all that, it’s great to be back at Spa – this circuit is simply stunning! It’s one of the best tracks for a driver, so fast and flowing. You have real racing fans here too, which is fantastic to see.
Okay, the track is somewhat unforgiving, but in a way, I don’t really think so. I think we’ve lost a bit of that in some of the new circuits we’ve seen added to the calendar in recent years. The old classics are the ones that really remind me why I love this sport so much: here, Monza, Suzuka, etc.
