The Grand Prix of the Americas will not take place in 2014, according to Ecclestone
Bernie Ecclestone revealed that the Grand Prix of the Americas, supposed to take place in New Jersey and already delayed by a year, could be postponed again by another year. It would therefore only appear on the calendar in 2015.
The New Jersey was supposed to host the Grand Prix of the Americas in 2013, but the race was eventually postponed by a year because the promoters were not ready for Formula 1.
But ultimately, the race could be postponed by an additional year if we are to believe Bernie Ecclestone, who told CNN that the Grand Prix would not take place in 2014: « It’s not planned for next year. They don’t have enough money. »
The calendar for the 2014 Formula 1 season will be voted on in December by the FIA, but the new races must be in good financial health, and initially, this was the case for the Grand Prix of the Americas, which appointed UBS bank to raise 75 million euros for the race to take place.
On the side of the Grand Prix promoters, they are sidestepping the issue. One of the event’s spokespersons, Alex Howe, stated, as quoted by *CNN*: “We do not comment on financial aspects, but we are on track for 2014 and will release a statement following the announcement of the official calendar for the 2014 season of the Formula 1 World Championship.”
The race is supposed to take place on an urban circuit drawn on the roads of Port Imperial, a city in New Jersey located opposite New York and separated from the Big Apple by the Hudson River.
Bernie Ecclestone signed a contract to place the race on the calendar for 15 years, but so far nothing concrete has come out of this agreement. The Briton has been trying to organize a race in New York for over 30 years now, but for the moment, it seems like a struggle for the head of the FOM.
