Sunday: Ferrari and Alonso complete an “almost perfect” weekend

Fernando Alonso – 2nd:

« Standing on the podium at Monza is always a special feeling, as it’s the only one where you can feel all the love the fans have for the team, and it’s the best reward at the end of what has been an almost perfect weekend. « Almost » because our championship rivals won, and we congratulate them. We were doing well on Friday and Saturday, with both cars in the top 5, but the Red Bulls were able to do better. When Vettel stopped, we were still improving our sectors, so we chose to extend the stint as much as possible, at least until Webber was no longer a threat. That way, we could have tried to catch Vettel with the hard tires that would have been fresher by a few laps. We did our best, and although we must be realistic about our chances in the championship, as it won’t be easy to close a 53-point gap during the remaining races, in Formula 1, anything can happen, and we will believe in our chances until the finish line in Brazil, trying to give our 100%. »

Felipe Massa – 4th:

I’m very happy with my race, which went fantastically well right from the start, thanks to a good start that gained me two places. The pace was good with both types of tires and we were consistent throughout the race. It’s a shame to lose a place against Webber during the pit stop because today, the podium was within our reach and it would have been great to celebrate it with the fans at home. Today, overtaking was not easy because when you were behind another car, especially in the second sector, you lost downforce. Overall, the weekend was very positive for me and the whole team. We brought back good points, but we know we still have a lot of work to do if we want to progress. I will do my best until the end of the championship.
