Button does not have a contract for 2014 yet
While Felipe Massa recently stated that he had been in contact with McLaren for the 2014 season, Jenson Button, on his side, still hasn't signed an extension for the upcoming year with the British team. According to the 2009 world champion, however, it would only be a matter of time...
Jenson Button has not yet signed a contract for the 2014 season. However, the Briton is not worried about the situation and believes that confirmation of his extension with McLaren should happen soon: « I think I don’t need to worry about the fact that the team wants to continue with me. It’s a fact that I don’t have a contract for 2014, that’s the reality. But they want me, and I want to stay here. So it will happen. It’s just a matter of time. »
Button, threatened by Felipe Massa who would like to join a competitive team following his divorce from Ferrari, does not hesitate to declare his love for the Woking team: « I feel very good in this team and I think we are good together. I am very involved. I would really miss not being with them and they would surely miss me too. In the end, in everyone’s life, all relationships come to an end, for various reasons. But it’s a very good partnership, and we have worked very well together for four years, and there are surely more to come. »
Despite being one of the oldest drivers on the grid, Button refutes any idea of retirement for the time being: « I think about my contracts for the future. I feel like I’m doing a good job and managing to get the most out of the car every weekend. All I can hope for is to continually push my limits and make sure I’m giving it my all. And that’s what I think I’m doing. There’s therefore no reason to move on or try something new. I’m enjoying racing. »
Jenson Button ends his statements to our colleagues at Autosport with a touch of quintessential British humor: « You know, someone will have to do a better job than me before I can start thinking about retirement. »
