Sirotkin drove a Sauber while waiting for a Ferrari
Sergey Sirotkin drove a Sauber this weekend in Sochi for his debut in a Formula 1 car. The Russian is also expected to drive a Ferrari at Fiorano in the coming days with the aim of obtaining his super license.
At the end of last week, Sergey Sirotkin completed his first laps at the wheel of a Formula 1 car. This took place on the Sochi street circuit, which will host the 2014 Russian Grand Prix in Formula 1.
The young Russian drove the Sauber C31 – from 2012 – during a roadshow on a section of the track located in the Russian seaside resort and he was delighted with this first experience: « This was my first meters in a Formula 1 single-seater, which was obviously very special, even if it was just a small portion of the Sochi track. I was still able to get a first impression, and it was great. It was fun to drive in front of such a large audience, especially because most of them were my compatriots. Russia can be proud of this beautiful track. »
According to *El Mundo Deportivo*, the Russian had actually driven with Scuderia Ferrari shortly before this roadshow. However, Sirotkin is not expected to limit himself to this first experience driving an F1 car at home. The Russian is expected to drive a Ferrari again, the engine partner of Sauber, with the goal of accumulating the necessary mileage to obtain his super license, essential for racing in F1 next year.
Currently, [the super license] is just a formality. We have two days to demonstrate our race pace over 300 kilometers. I take this very seriously, but I’m not afraid. I think I can do it. Yes [I’ll be driving a Ferrari]. The first tests will take place in Fiorano, Sirotkin told the site F1news.ru.
