Saturday: Rosberg and Hamilton secure an all-Mercedes second row
Once again, the Mercedes justify their status as "best of the rest" in qualifying by monopolizing the second row: while Nico Rosberg believes he couldn't really do better, Lewis Hamilton was unable to complete his second, faster lap in Q3 due to a technical problem.
Nico Rosberg – 4th and 3rd:
« It’s great to have another positive Saturday for our team. Once again, we are the best of the rest, which is our goal for the weekend, and starting 3rd and 4th is excellent for us to score a lot of points in the constructors’ championship. My last lap in Q3 wasn’t brilliant today, but anyway, there was only a slim chance for me to improve my time. Mark and Seb were just too fast today for me to be on the front row, but I’m confident we can have a good race here tomorrow. »
Lewis Hamilton – 3rd and 4th:
The fourth place is very good considering that the time was achieved on my first run in Q3. Unfortunately, on my second run, it seemed that something sagged at the back of the car because I had the power coming out of the chicane and then it broke, which caused me to spin. It was a great lap and it might have been enough to place us on the front row because I was four tenths quicker, but it happens.
The car seemed really strong today, so we hope for a good start and then to fight for a few positions during the race. The good thing is that we are ahead of the Ferraris and that’s where we need to stay. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and hope we can have a good result.
