Official: The FIA Launches a Tender for a New Team
After announcing a series of measures on Monday, December 9, the FIA continues to communicate on the future of the discipline by issuing an official announcement aimed at attracting a new team for 2015 or 2016.
The FIA, through a statement on its website, indicated its desire to attract a new team to the grid from 2015 or 2016 until 2020. The statement also specifies that: « The long-term overall interest for the championship will determine the selected candidates. »
The candidates, who will have to meet formal criteria and submit a declaration of interest before January 3, 2014, will be judged on the following criteria:
– « les capacités et les ressources techniques de l’équipe »
– « la capacité de l’équipe à trouver et à maintenir des fonds suffisants pour permettre une participation au championnat à un niveau compétitif »
– « l’expérience de l’équipe et les ressources humaines »
– « l’évaluation par la FIA de la valeur que le candidat pourra apporter au championnat dans son ensemble ».
The FIA hopes to be able to make a decision on February 28, 2014, reserving the right not to select a team if the applicants are not deemed suitable.
As a reminder, the last time the disciplinary bodies issued a call for tenders, three teams were selected for the 2010 season. Among them were the predecessors of Caterham (Team Lotus) and Marussia (Virgin), as well as HRT, which disappeared at the end of the 2012 season.
