2014 Malaysian Grand Prix: Esso appears on the McLaren
After Mobil 1 in Australia, it will be Esso's turn, another brand from the ExxonMobil group, to take place on the pontoons of the McLaren MP4-29 during the Malaysian Grand Prix.
After a special operation to celebrate the 20-year partnership between McLaren and ExxonMobil, through the Mobil 1 fluids and fuel brand, in Australia, it’s another brand of the American company, Esso, that will be displayed on the black pontoons of the MP4-29 in Sepang.
Matt Bishop, McLaren’s head of communications, explains this new operation: « ExxonMobil was delighted with the additional exposure and positive feedback received after unveiling the special livery celebrating the 20th anniversary of the technological partnership between McLaren and ExxonMobil at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix. Building on this success, ExxonMobil is excited about the opportunity for new exposure […] with a livery featuring the Esso fuels logo as well as the Mobil 1 brand. »
As a reminder, these operations have multiplied since the beginning of the season due to the current absence of a title sponsor for the Woking team, which could, however, be announced in the coming weeks, replacing Vodafone, who held this role until last year.
Besides the sponsor’s name, another major new feature has appeared on the MP4-29: a more refined nose, with the spacing of the wing mounts, allowing air to pass under the car, being larger than in Australia, and the nose seeming flatter, even showing a slight unevenness, almost like a step.
