Bahrain: Vibrator Modified After Räikkönen and Maldonado’s Takeoffs
Following two similar incidents that occurred yesterday during free practice, a modification to the outside kerb of turn 4 is expected to take place after an agreement from the race management.
According to Autosport, changes will be made to the kerb located at Turn 4 of the Sakhir Circuit, which hosts the third round of the 2014 F1 World Championship, following concerns raised by the drivers.
Indeed, on Friday, two drivers encountered the same issue: Kimi Räikkönen first, during the first practice session, and then Pastor Maldonado, during the second practice session, both went slightly wide in that corner, climbing over the external curb which lifted them about thirty centimeters off the ground.
« I had a big shock. I broke the floor and stopped for 10 to 15 minutes during the session. Maybe I was in the wrong place or the bump is too high. We have to stay away from that, » the Venezuelan declared.
The problem was apparently raised with Charlie Whiting, the race director, during the drivers’ briefing on Friday evening in Bahrain, and the complaints reportedly led to an agreement for modifications to be made at that location. Autosport does not specify exactly when.
