Saturday: Williams is finally competitive in the rain
While previous wet track qualifications had seen Williams suffer, Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas qualified 6th and 7th. Both drivers highlight the work done by their team and hope for dry weather tomorrow.
Felipe Massa (No.19) – 2nd and 6th
While the Williams seems more competitive on dry tracks than on wet ones, as demonstrated by the qualifying sessions in Australia and Malaysia, Felipe Massa qualified 6th: “We have shown that we have improved on wet tracks. It’s good to see steps forward.” But the day hasn’t been easy: “The day was difficult for us, given the complicated weather conditions.”
The race should be better for the Brazilian: « Tomorrow could be interesting given that we are more competitive in the dry: it could make for a good race. » The former Ferrari driver highlights his team’s performance: « Having both cars in the top 10 once again is really promising, now we need to improve for tomorrow’s race. »
Valtteri Bottas (No. 77) – 8th and 7th
Like his teammate, Valtteri Bottas highlights his team’s progress: « The day has been positive for us given that we have made notable improvements on a wet track. The new parts brought here help us in the dry, but also in these conditions. » The Williams driver calls on his team to continue this way: « It’s the right direction, and it’s the result of hard work from the team’s guys. »
But the return on a dry track will be better for the Finn, who knows that his Williams can do even better: « We are always more competitive in the dry, so we hope the race will go that way, and we can finish higher than today. »
