Monaco: A Possible Chance to Beat Mercedes for Red Bull
Deprived of victory since the start of the season, the Red Bull team, four-time reigning world champion, has not given up. The next Grand Prix, in the narrow streets of Monaco, could, with its particular characteristics, allow the Austrian team to finally beat the invincible Mercedes.
Mercedes secured the top two spots on the podium in the first five races of the season, leaving only scraps for its rivals such as Ferrari, McLaren, Force India, or Red Bull, the only other teams to have clinched a podium finish.
But the latter is not giving up and intends to take advantage of the characteristics of the Monaco track, the setting for the next Grand Prix of the season, to finally succeed in beating the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel, buoyed by his encouraging fourth place in Spain, is determined to do everything he can to achieve this goal: « It’s hard to predict, but maybe in Monaco, we will need a little less engine power. We always need power, but here, maybe a bit less than in some places. Maybe there will be a bit of rain, which could help us, so there is always a chance to beat anyone. »
As for whether Red Bull was able to benefit from the two practice sessions conducted at the Circuit de Catalunya by the teams on Tuesday and Wednesday after the Spanish Grand Prix, Vettel remains evasive: « Not really. Also in terms of tires because we used the same ones as last weekend. In fact, it was more useful for trying to understand the overall behavior of the car, rather than specifically preparing for a single race. »
Last year already, during the Monaco Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg dominated the entire weekend, setting the fastest times in all sessions and claiming victory in the race ahead of the two Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber and his Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
