Toro Rosso: Kvyat has never raced on street circuits

The Monaco Grand Prix, which begins this Thursday, will be the first in Formula 1 for a handful of drivers. Marcus Ericsson, Kevin Magnussen, and Daniil Kvyat will indeed make their debuts in the principality this weekend. But for the Toro Rosso driver, this experience will be completely unique.

Indeed, the 20-year-old Russian admitted that he had never driven on an urban circuit, between the rails and without run-off areas: « Monaco will be an absolutely new experience for me. Not only because I have never raced here, but also because I have never set foot here. Of course, I have watched many races in Monaco on my TV screen with many onboard cameras. It will truly be a leap into the unknown, even though I have already practiced the circuit in a simulator. In fact, I have never raced on any other city circuit. »

Difficult under these conditions to hope for a convincing result during the weekend, as learning the track is crucial in the principality. Kvyat indeed has very little experience in single-seaters with only four seasons behind him, notably with a GP3 championship title in 2013.

But the Russian driver is keen to learn and also soak up the unique atmosphere that prevails in Monaco during the Grand Prix, making it a one-of-a-kind event: “I am really looking forward to being there, mainly from a driving perspective. But I also want to know what makes this race a special event for all motorsport fans.”
