Mattiacci unveils his intentions for Ferrari
Rather discreet since his arrival as the head of Ferrari's sporting management last April, Marco Mattiacci spoke about the actions he envisions to get Scuderia back on track in F1, both on the track and at the factory.
Since his appointment as the sporting director of Scuderia Ferrari by Luca di Montezemolo last April in replacement of Stefano Domenicali, Marco Mattiacci has spoken little about his vision for the revival of the Italian team he now leads.
After the Monaco Grand Prix, where Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen finished in 4th and 12th positions, the Italian gave the first insights into the next steps he will take to straighten things out at the Reds: « Over the past six weeks, we have conducted a very thorough assessment of the possibilities to improve the situation in the short term, and which areas deserve a medium or somewhat long-term approach, in order to bring Ferrari back to a proper level. For obvious reasons, I will not publicly disclose which areas we need to work on » he stated in the columns of Autosport.
Mattiacci, however, clarified his comments by explaining that speed should not only be found on the track, but also in decision-making and factory work: « But it is clear that we need to take action toward improving work methodology, overall organization, making the Scuderia faster, not just on the track, but also in terms of processes. »
Rumors linking Adrian Newey’s future to Ferrari have made headlines in Italian newspapers in recent weeks. Without wanting to confirm or deny the contacts between the engineer and the legendary Maranello team, Mattiacci responds in these terms: « I think we have many assets, many good people, and I believe that in the market there are people who can add significant value to the team, we will certainly look towards them. No company that wants to improve can remain the same. As for organizational change, bringing in external people is perfectly normal. Everyone does this, not just Ferrari. »
