Friday: Massa and Williams hope to compete with Red Bull and Ferrari
The first day of the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix of Formula 1 was good for Williams, who showed an interesting pace, to the point that Felipe Massa hopes to be able to play the spoiler in the fight for the podium.
Valtteri Bottas (No. 77) – 5th and 7th
For the Finn, the day was calm but he knows that better things are to come with the softer tires: « It’s more or less what we expected. We got some good results from the changes made since the last race […]. It seems that everyone is having trouble with getting the soft tires up to temperature, but the super-softs seem much better. I think we can improve our overall performance compared to today. I didn’t sign a perfect lap with the super-softs, so I think there’s still a bit more to come. »
Felipe Massa (No. 19) – 17th and 6th
Despite a lack of running due to a morning issue, the Brazilian made up for lost time and hopes to give Mercedes’ challengers a hard time: « It was a good Friday. Unfortunately, I lost some running this morning, but in the afternoon we were able to do a lot to understand the settings, the tires, and the long runs. I was happy with the balance today. I hope we can have a very competitive car on this track, and I hope we can fight with Red Bull and Ferrari, which is never easy. »
