Schumacher: More Details on His Health Condition
Following his admission to the CHUV in Lausanne, Michael Schumacher is expected to undergo a fairly long period of rehabilitation according to a hospital spokesperson.
After the announcement of his release from the coma and his transfer from the CHU of Grenoble to the CHUV of Lausanne, information on Michael Schumacher’s health is gradually appearing through official channels. Darcy Christen, a spokesperson for the Lausanne hospital, made a statement to the media following the admission of the German champion: « He will not be here for just a few days. This will be long term. »
A source close to the family, however, provides a bit more information about Michaël Schumacher’s health: « He is still more or less conscious at times, but he has more regular moments of awareness than during the month of April. He certainly cannot speak, but there is a certain degree of communication. His doctors and family talk to him, but he gets tired very quickly and needs a lot of rest, » this source told The Telegraph.
The road is still long for the German champion, who benefits from a rehabilitation center in Lausanne that is suitable and close to his family home: « It will be a very long journey, and it is difficult to say what the outcome will be. Whatever happens, it will require a lot of patience. [The hospital] combines care and research in the best possible way. There is no better place for Schumacher at the moment. »
Moreover, former Formula 1 driver Olivier Panis, close to the Schumacher family, stated on the radio station RTL that the German driver would likely not remain paralyzed: « He will not be paralyzed. Everything related to motor skills has not been affected. It will be a very, very long rehabilitation. And at the cerebral level, we don’t know, we will have to be patient. High-level athletes have a faster recovery ability than the average person. » However, let’s remember that this is not a medical opinion.
