Saturday: Ricciardo puts Red Bull ahead in front of his home crowd
In retreat since the beginning of the weekend, Red Bull can take solace in Daniel Ricciardo's good performance, who clinched the third row. On the other hand, Sebastian Vettel couldn't even make it out of Q2.
Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 7th and 5th
For the Australian, the task was complicated, and managing to just make it into the top 5 is the best possible result: « It was difficult. It has been difficult all weekend, to be honest, and it felt like we had to shake the car hard to get into the top 5, which we achieved today. »
The winner of the Canadian Grand Prix praises the work of other teams: « All weekend, we were behind and I say respect to the other teams. They managed to prepare their cars well for this weekend, and we must keep pushing. 5th was the best we could do today. »
Sebastian Vettel (No. 1) – 10th and 13th (will start 12th)
The four-time world champion appears fatalistic and somewhat acknowledges the superiority of his teammate: « There was no real problem today, except for the fact that we weren’t fast enough. Daniel was faster in turn 5 and has been faster all weekend in turn 2. »
He is relying on the temperatures to improve his Red Bull’s performance: « We will see how it goes for the race; it should be warmer tomorrow and hopefully, we can make a big step forward and gain an advantage over some of the other cars. »
