Sunday: Alonso in the top 5, Räikkönen sandwiched at Ferrari
Despite some progress, Scuderia Ferrari leaves the German F1 Grand Prix with only one driver in the top 5, Fernando Alonso. On his side, Kimi Räikkönen was involved in two contacts that cost him dearly.
Fernando Alonso (#14) – 5th
For the Spaniard, the Grand Prix was no walk in the park, as he had to juggle between the race itself and management: « It was a good race, even though it was very complex, because we decided to switch from a two-stop to a three-stop strategy. It wasn’t easy to fight while keeping an eye on consumption, and in the end, with the help of new tires, finishing ahead of Ricciardo allowed us to end in the highest position possible. »
The objectives set are modest, as is the progress observed: We have made a small step forward, and even if it hasn’t translated into better times, it’s encouraging for us to continue progressing. The goal is always to score points to help the team in the constructors’ championship.
Kimi Räikkönen (No. 7) – 11th
The Finn was involved in two touches, with Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, which altered the behavior of his Ferrari F14-T: « It’s really a shame the way my race unfolded, because this weekend, I felt more comfortable and today, with fresh tires, I was doing well. Unfortunately, twice I found myself stuck between two cars and each time, my front wing was damaged and it compromised my race. The tire performance dropped more than expected and I had graining on the front left and I was losing aero downforce. »
However, despite this new zero score, he sees reasons for satisfaction: « On the positive side, I was able to drive the way I like today. I am sure that without these problems, things would have worked out differently and I could have finished in the points. »
