Saturday: Red Bull and Vettel secure the front row at the Hungaroring
The qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix of Formula 1 was an opportunity for Red Bull to confirm their strong performance on the Hungaroring track, with Sebastian Vettel even managing to secure a place on the front row alongside Nico Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel (no. 1) – 3rd and 2nd
For the German, if the performance is good, it’s mainly the gap with Rosberg that surprises him. He is looking forward to the race: « After Q2, I thought that if things went well, we could be closer to the Mercedes. Nico’s lap was very good, and it’s difficult to reach them. But let’s wait and see tomorrow, a lot of things can change if it rains and that’s possible tomorrow. »
« We just have to focus on ourselves and, if we have a chance, try to overtake, but the Mercedes is a bit faster than us on the straights. The nature of the circuit here suits us more than in Germany, but we are still quite far from the Mercedes’ pace, » he concluded.
Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 4th and 4th
On the Australian’s side, a bit of disappointment as he thought the first row was attainable: « The car seems very good this weekend. In Q1 and Q2, we seemed good, but when the rain came in Q3, we couldn’t get the tire temperature back up quickly enough for a flying lap, so I’m a bit disappointed not to be higher on the grid. It would have been really nice to be on the front row, but 4th isn’t a disaster. »
