Sunday: First Grand Prix without points in 2014 for Force India

Nico Hülkenberg (No. 27) – Retired (Collision)

While Nico Hülkenberg was one of the only drivers to have scored points in every Grand Prix this season, this streak ended today after a collision with his teammate: « The track was drying and I got close to Checo [Sergio Perez] when I made contact with him in the final corner. He didn’t have the same line as the previous lap, and as I was taking the inside, he took a slightly tighter line and it was too late for me to react. »

This accident was fatal for Nico Hülkenberg, although his teammate was able to continue the race. « I lost my front wing and ended up in the barrier. It was my mistake, and I apologized to the team. » The German is obviously disappointed not to finish in the points, or even finish at all, because according to him, the result would have been good. « There was a lot of potential for this race, but I guess it’s one of those days where things don’t go the right way. »

Sergio Perez (#11) – Retired (Accident)

Just like his teammate, Sergio Perez regrets not scoring any points despite the potential seen: « It’s a really disappointing end to our weekend, just when we could have scored some big points. » After his contact with his teammate, Checo continued to attack in changing conditions: « the conditions were tough, the track was drying and improving, and it makes you want to push to the limit, but there are still some puddles that can lead you to make a mistake. »

And it’s a pocket of water at the exit of the last corner that propelled Sergio Perez into the pit wall, causing the second safety car to come out: « I was a bit outside of the curb in the last corner, lost the rear, and it was over, I was in the wall. » Although disappointed for his team, the Mexican looks to the future: « We will take the positive elements from this weekend and get back in the points in the next race. »
