Marc Marquez denies a possible move to F1
The 2013 MotoGP champion, Marc Marquez, has dismissed rumors that he wishes to switch from motorcycle racing to Formula 1.
In early June, the 2013 world champion and current MotoGP leader, Marc Marquez, who has achieved 10 victories in 11 races this season for Honda, told the media, on the sidelines of a meeting with Fernando Alonso during the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, that he was not opposed to a test in F1.
« One day, I would like to try. I don’t know when. Not right away. I have never met Fernando before, and it was nice to talk with a Formula 1 driver, » he explained.
A few months later, this statement gained momentum and some Spanish media suggested that Marquez was considering switching from two to four wheels. A rumor that was quickly denied by the person concerned, this Thursday, at Silverstone where the British Grand Prix will take place on Sunday: « They are wrong! I don’t know why. They asked me if I wanted to try a Formula 1 and I said ‘one day, why not? The experience would be nice, but later’. But they say I want to go to Formula 1! »
« Stop the questions! My world is here, in MotoGP, » he concluded on the subject, as reported by our British colleagues from Crash.net.
In the shared history of both disciplines, one man stands as a true legend: the Briton John Surtees, crowned Formula 1 champion in 1964, driving a Ferrari 158, after winning four world motorcycle championship titles in the premier class (500cc) and three 350cc championship titles (won alongside his last three 500cc titles) riding an MV Augusta. He is the only driver to have achieved such a feat.
More recently, rumors had surrounded Valentino Rossi’s career, the seven-time MotoGP world champion, who had even conducted tests for Ferrari.
