Alonso doesn’t want to leave Ferrari “for the moment”
Coveted by McLaren F1 in particular, Fernando Alonso has reaffirmed his desire to stay with Ferrari to win and finish the work started in 2010.
Highly sought after by McLaren-Honda for 2015 or 2016, Fernando Alonso took advantage of an interview with Sky Sports to clarify his future for the next season, stating that he did not want to leave Scuderia Ferrari.
Present since 2010 in Maranello, the Spaniard will celebrate next year the ten-year anniversary of his first world championship title, won in 2005 driving a Renault. He wants to be crowned driving a Scuderia single-seater: « It’s not my intention at the moment to change, I want to win here and finish the work we started a few years ago. »
The rumors have been persistent regarding the future of the Asturian Bull, with Honda and McLaren eager to secure his services to signal their intent to quickly return to the top. While he feels flattered, Alonso states that he has never wanted to leave.
« There were a lot of debates last summer, but on my part, there was never any interest in leaving Ferrari or any statement saying I wanted to join another team, » he assures, despite the fact that several reports suggested otherwise. « There was a lot of speculation, which is not bothersome but it creates a bit of tension and stress. After all, you also feel happy and proud when the best teams are interested in you. »
Currently, Fernando Alonso is 4th in the world championship, with 121 points, which is 99 behind the leader, Nico Rosberg.
