Pirelli announces its choices for the Japanese and Russian Grand Prix

The Eurasian tour of Formula 1 in 2014 will allow the use of the entire range of Pirelli P-Zero tires. Indeed, it was already known that the Singapore Grand Prix would see the use of super soft and soft tires – usually used for street circuits – the following Grand Prix will see two other combinations.

Thus, in Japan, on the Suzuka circuit, which is very demanding on tires, especially in terms of lateral forces, the two compounds used will be the most resistant ones, the hard (orange) and medium (white) tires. They will be tasked with withstanding high speeds, strong abrasion, and fast corners.

For Russia, and the first edition of the Grand Prix in Sochi, Pirelli chose – due to the lack of running – to use the soft (yellow) and medium tires. According to their simulations, these compounds would be the most suitable for this new, urban track and would ensure a wide range of possible conditions.

In its statement, Pirelli announced that it will provide its tire selections for the last three races – United States, Brazil, and Abu Dhabi – after the Russian Grand Prix.
