Peter Prodromou makes his debut at McLaren F1

Last October, McLaren announced they had recruited engineer Peter Prodromou, who was then Adrian Newey’s right-hand man at Red Bull.

Unable to take up his duties for a year, due to confidentiality as is customary in the high-level engineering industry, Prodromou will only start working for his new team starting this week. His influence should therefore be felt in the design of the next 2015 McLaren-Honda.

On the side of the Woking team, this arrival is seen as a step forward, as confirmed by Jonathan Neale, McLaren’s chief engineer: “I am very happy to welcome Peter back to McLaren. We are putting everything in place to ensure that McLaren can regularly return to the title race. Peter’s appointment is very important as it also shows the public that we are continually adding strength to our organization.”

Prodromou, for his part, is determined to do his best to bring McLaren back to success with the Honda engine in 2015: « It’s fantastic to return to McLaren and see a mix of new faces and familiar ones. Of course, I’ve already been able to experience the passion, focus, and competitive ability of the team that reigns within its walls. And I’ve already glimpsed McLaren’s enthusiasm to become world champions again. »

The arrival of Prodromou is part of the profound restructuring that McLaren has undertaken under the leadership of Eric Boullier, as the Frenchman himself explains: « He [Prodromou] joins us at a propitious moment; we have spent much of 2014 developing and organizing our design department, and his arrival perfectly coincides with the conclusion of this restructuring. Everyone at McLaren looks forward to his future contribution as we move forward with ambitious plans for the future. »
