Ferrari: Still too early to see the effects of the restructuring
Marco Mattiacci, the sporting director of Scuderia Ferrari, considered that it was still too early to see the positive effects on the Formula 1 team from the deep restructuring that Ferrari has undertaken in recent weeks.
With the departure of Stefano Domencali earlier this year, and Luca di Montezemolo’s announced departure in the coming days, Ferrari is undergoing one of its most significant restructurings in years.
However, its impact on the Formula 1 team, a true showcase for the Italian manufacturer, is still difficult to quantify, as noted by the sporting director of Scuderia, Marco Mattiacci in the columns of Autosport: “It is still too early to say how this will work. From my perspective, we are extremely fortunate because we have worked with an impressive and legendary manager, Luca di Montezemolo, and now with Mr. Marchionne.”
Mattiacci is counting on this new arrival at the head of Ferrari to start discussions about the future of the Formula 1 team and upcoming projects to turn the Prancing Horse team into a world champion again: « It’s very important to learn and discuss crucial topics. Everyone aims to bring Ferrari back to the top. »
Progress has already been glimpsed in Singapore, notably in qualifying and free practice sessions where Fernando Alonso climbed to the top of the timesheets, practically on the same pace as the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo: « We have seen some big improvements on the car. We are roughly on the same pace as the Red Bulls. But of course, the ultimate goal is to win, not to catch up with others. »
On Kimi Räikkönen’s side, the discourse is also optimistic, while remaining realistic about the very particular environment surrounding the Scuderia: « Ferrari is not an easy environment when the results are not good. But I think we have a good team and we can improve greatly in the coming years by making sure we are in the right place to progress to where we need to be. I think there are good changes being made and they will pay off in the future. »
