Bianchi: Doctors still cannot make a statement
In an interview with Gazetta Dello Sport, Philippe Bianchi, the father of Jules Bianchi who was seriously injured last October while driving his Marussia, gives news about his son whose condition remains unchanged.
As the new Formula 1 season is about to begin, no one has forgotten the tough battle that Jules Bianchi is fighting in the hospital in Nice. The French driver, who was seriously injured during the last Japanese Grand Prix in October 2014, is still fighting for his survival with his loved ones by his side.
If his condition remains unchanged, Jules’s father, Philippe, reports some minor improvements, as he mentioned to La Gazetta Dello Sport, while remaining very cautious about his son’s progress, who has yet to regain consciousness, even though he is no longer on a respirator: « We need patience, a lot of patience. There are small improvements, but Jules remains in a coma. All we can do, until he wakes up, is wait. »
Waiting indeed seems to be the key word now, as the doctors cannot comment on Jules’s condition until he wakes up: « The doctors remain silent, » says Philippe Bianchi. « As long as Jules is in this state, they cannot make a prognosis. He could very well wake up, or he could remain in this state. Jules is fighting, that’s for sure; his physical condition is excellent, he is strong and he doesn’t give up. We too are trying to be as strong as him. But it’s not easy. Living like this is inhumane, not knowing how things will turn out is really difficult, knowing that at any moment we might receive a very unpleasant call from the hospital. But we must be strong for Jules. »
Jules’s family is trying their best to cope with this ordeal and resume a life as normal as possible, as the pilot’s father explains: « I will return to the karting tracks, with two young drivers I work with. But emotionally, it’s really very difficult. These are the tracks where I always went with Jules, a thousand memories still crowd my mind. And then so many people come to see me to ask how I’m doing and how Jules is doing. »
The world of Formula 1 has not forgotten Jules and remains present to support his family: « The fans and many drivers do not forget us, it is heartening. Felipe Massa, Jean-Eric Vergne, and many others regularly reach out, and even young drivers like Raffaele Marciello or Antonio Fuoco. »
In the turmoil, Philippe Bianchi also does not forget that the FIA report on his son’s accident particularly blames the excessive speed of the French driver. An accusation he refuses to leave unanswered, even though, for now, nothing has been undertaken: “I have hired a top lawyer, and he is studying everything that happened that day. Until he reaches a conclusion, I cannot and will not comment. If someone is responsible for what happened, they will have to pay. I don’t know which path to take or what will happen in the future; what is certain is that what happened in Suzuka was not a normal situation. Once again, at the moment, I do not want to deal with that, I only think of Jules. I believe he will wake up, not remain like this, with us, all this time for nothing. It is the race of his life, and I am sure that in the end, he will win. Just look at what is happening with Michael Schumacher: 14 months have passed since his skiing accident and aren’t his progress significant?”
