Gasly will make his F1 debut with Toro Rosso
French hopeful Pierre Gasly will take his first laps in Formula 1 at the wheel of a Toro Rosso during the first private testing sessions that will take place after the Spanish Grand Prix, at the Barcelona circuit.
After Esteban Ocon last year with Lotus, it is another Frenchman who will experience the joys of driving a Formula 1 this season.
Indeed, Pierre Gasly, Red Bull development driver who had been considered for a main seat at Toro Rosso, which ultimately went to Carlos Sainz Jr, will be entrusted by the Faenza-based team with an STR10 during the first private tests of the season scheduled for the day after the Spanish Grand Prix next May.
The 19-year-old driver is, of course, very excited about making his first strides in the discipline: « I am thrilled to make my F1 debut, and doing so with Toro Rosso, which has perfectly trained three generations of drivers, is perfect for me. I can’t wait to be there and get even closer to my dream. »
This season, Gasly is participating in the GP2 championship with the DAMS team, for which he is conducting pre-season testing this week at the Bahrain circuit.
