Trulli: It’s difficult to work with Alonso
Former Formula 1 driver, Jarno Trulli, now the director of a Formula E team, commented on the resurgence of Ferrari with Sebastian Vettel, also highlighting the relational difficulties that Fernando Alonso can bring to a team.
Teammate of Fernando Alonso at Renault for a season and a half, Jarno Trulli is well-positioned to speak about the influence of the Spanish driver within a team.
Reputed as a very fast driver and a skilled developer, the double world champion also carries the image of a rather difficult personality to live and deal with, as Trulli does not hesitate to specify: “I worked with Alonso, and it’s rather difficult to work with him. Today, as a team director, I would prefer to choose Vettel,” he confided to the Italian newspaper *Tuttosport*.
These statements obviously highlight the recent transfer of Sebastian Vettel to Ferrari in place of Fernando Alonso, after five years of chasing an unreachable world title. For Trulli, Ferrari made the right choice in parting ways with the Spaniard to recruit the four-time German world champion: « Sebastian [Vettel] brings a fresh perspective to the team, which was no longer the case as they did not have the best possible relationship with Alonso. »
However, like many observers, the Italian was far from thinking that success would come so quickly: « I wouldn’t have bet a penny on this start to the season. Now, they can be on Mercedes’ heels, for whom this situation is also unexpected. But I think they still have a few cards up their sleeves for the next race in China, which should teach us a lot. »
