Manor’s season will truly begin in Spain
John Booth, the sporting director of the Manor team, believes that the first two months of the season have served as a learning experience for his team. Manor should thus demonstrate some of its true potential starting from the Spanish Grand Prix, taking place this weekend.
Saved at the last moment from certain disappearance, the Marussia team, now known as Manor, could only be a placeholder during the first four Grand Prix of the season.
The first months of the year were mainly spent ensuring the team functioned normally, without being able to really seek performance improvements on the car, as confirmed by John Booth, the team’s sporting director: « The first two months of the year and the six weeks before Melbourne, nothing was more important than our presence on the grid. The whole team worked very hard at the factory and there was no room for anything else. »
With its presence secured, Manor can now focus on the development of its car, which is actually just an update to the new regulations of last year’s vehicle: « Since we returned from Bahrain, we have been able to assess our situation and start functioning properly. We have moved to new premises in Silverstone and are now able to work together. It’s a big step forward. »
The new single-seater, however, is not expected to appear before the summer, as the team indicated during the weekend in Bahrain.
