Red Bull: Improvement but still frustration for Kvyat and Ricciardo
The Red Bull team managed to get both of its cars into Q3, which is a slight improvement compared to the start of the season. But Daniil Kvyat and especially Daniel Ricciardo remain frustrated at not being able to go higher.
Daniil Kvyat found a trouble-free car today, which allowed him to perform his work correctly during qualifying, where he outpaced his teammate for the first time this season.
The Russian is quite satisfied with his 8th place but remains aware of the path still to be taken to reach the top: « I did my best, so I’m satisfied with this 8th place. We may not yet have all the desired developments, but I am sure the team can change things. At least this weekend, we had practice and qualifying without too much trouble, and we were able to move forward step by step. But it’s tomorrow when everything will matter, and I can surely aim for some points from where I start. »
His teammate Daniel Ricciardo has a more mixed feeling about his performance this afternoon: “I believe 10th place is my worst qualification since I started with the team, so it’s not really a very good day for me. I was frustrated, mainly in the 3rd sector. In Q1 and Q2, it was my best sector, but we lost at least 5 tenths there at the end, and I can’t really explain what happened.”
Tomorrow’s race will therefore be complicated for the Australian who also lacks speed: « We lack straight-line speed, so we’ll need to make a good start tomorrow and apply a good strategy. »
