Vettel: “We cannot take Monaco as a reference”
Despite a good first day of testing, Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari are staying grounded. The Monaco circuit is so atypical that it may not provide a credible benchmark for the Scuderia's performance against the competition.
Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen both completed the first two free practice sessions of the Monaco Grand Prix in the Top 10.
The arrival of rain in FP2 froze the performance of all teams, but the balance of the F15-T seems good according to the German driver: « The car has been quite good, we wanted to test a few more things but the weather played against us. We’ll have to wait until Saturday to try to see how we can get as close to the Mercedes as possible this Sunday. »
The atypical nature of the Monaco circuit does not serve as an absolute reference for Vettel: « We cannot take Monaco as a reference. The nature of the track means that everyone is a bit closer here, but I am sure we want to close the gap even more than that. That’s why everyone went out at the end of FP2. »
« It’s a shame that we couldn’t get an idea about the super-soft tires, but we’ll see about that on Saturday. » he concluded.
