Philippe Bianchi: “Jules is alive, that’s the most important thing for us”

A year ago, Jules Bianchi achieved the feat of scoring points at the wheel of his Marussia, on the narrow streets of Monaco. He entered the Top 10 in a race for the first time, thereby offering Marussia its first points in Formula 1 history.

Since his accident at the Japanese Grand Prix last October, Jules is now fighting to stay alive at the Nice hospital, surrounded by his family. His father made sure to give news about his health yesterday on the Canal + microphone: « Jules is alive, that’s the most important thing for us. He is fighting, that’s for sure, with the tools he has, namely his physical strength today. Neurologically, I’m not sure he has the power today to do a lot of things. Seeing him fight gives us a lot of strength, to all his loved ones, and it is important for us. As long as there is life, there is hope, even if at some point, we must wait for a miracle when there are such violent shocks. We sleep with the phone next to us. When we wake up in the morning, we think about Jules’s life. We also think about death. In any case, we are obliged to think about death in a situation where we know many things can happen to him, and that it’s terrible. »

These remarks, filled with poignant emotion, are unfortunately not very optimistic about a significant improvement in the pilot’s health condition. Philippe Bianchi nevertheless wants to thank, once again, the people who support his family in this difficult trial: “When we saw the support we could have, it’s touching, because at least for Jules, it’s important. We tell him, when we visit him, that he has support, that he is recognized, that everyone loves him, that he is acknowledged as a great driver and a good guy.”

The father of the young man from Nice also recalls the emotions experienced last year in Monaco with Jules’ first points in Formula 1: « I was there. I was lucky, when Jules reached the end of the Grand Prix, to be the first person he hugged, because he was all alone when he arrived. Those are extraordinary moments. »
