Perez: “It’s a very important result for the whole team”
The seventh place achieved by Sergio Perez at the wheel of his Force India on the streets of Monaco is seen as a breath of fresh air for the driver and his team, still waiting for an evolution of their car.
After a good qualifying session on Saturday, Sergio Perez managed to convert his seventh place on the grid into a seventh-place finish in the race on Sunday.
An almost unexpected result that delights the Mexican and his team: “I am really very happy. We did an excellent team job this weekend and this seventh place is the result of all our efforts. For me, it was a fairly normal and rather calm race, which is rather strange in Monaco. I was alone throughout the race: I couldn’t close the gap with the cars ahead and I had enough of a lead on my pursuers,” he said after the Grand Prix.
However, the race of the Force India driver was not the easiest: « It was tough to stay focused during the 78 laps, but after the safety car intervention, I put on new super-soft tires and it became really fun. I had the ability to attack Kimi [Räikkönen] but I didn’t have the opportunity to overtake him. »
The six points scored by Perez this weekend double his total points scored since the beginning of the year. In other words, the Mexican doubled his score in the Monegasque lottery this Sunday: « It’s a very important result for the whole team, which gives us six more points in the championship. This means that I scored points in half of the races this year. We have done a good job in maximizing opportunities. »
