Official: Starting Aids Banned from the Belgian GP
The FIA announced this Thursday that electronic aids at the start of races will be banned starting from the Belgian Grand Prix next month. This decision comes after a meeting of the F1 Strategy Group this week.
The meeting of the F1 Strategic Group held this week is already starting to bear fruit. During this meeting, the excessive reliance on driving aids currently available to drivers was highlighted.
Among these aids, those aimed at assisting drivers during Grand Prix start procedures will be significantly reduced. Indeed, the FIA has notably announced: « Increased restrictions on driver aids and coaching have received unanimous support […] ; particular emphasis will be placed on starts. These measures will return full control of the car to the driver, enhancing excitement and the unpredictability of races. »
This measure, aimed at making drivers more autonomous during race starts, will come into effect at the Belgian Grand Prix held on August 23 at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Other measures to reduce driver aids are expected to be announced by the FIA but will likely be applicable starting from the next season.
