Official: Nasr and Ericsson extend their contracts with Sauber
The Sauber team took advantage of the beginning of the Hungarian weekend to announce the extension of the contract for their current two drivers, Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson, for the 2016 season.
Sauber is the first team this year to announce its driver duo for the 2016 season. No changes will be made, as Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson will continue the adventure in Hinwill.
For the Brazilian rookie, this extension rewards an excellent start to the season and marks a welcome continuity in his young Formula 1 career: « It’s great to drive for Sauber for another season. This contract extension is an important step in my career. During this first half of the season, as a rookie, I had the opportunity to gain a lot of experience regarding my driving progress. Finishing fifth in Melbourne for my first Grand Prix is by far the highlight of my career so far. Now, I can focus on the second part of the season. »
For his part, Marcus Ericsson managed to prove at the beginning of this year that he was not just a pay driver and that his driving skills could be recognized, as evidenced by this extension: « I am very happy that Sauber trusts my abilities for another season. I am getting to know the people within the team better and better, and I feel valued as a driver. I feel honored to be part of the Sauber family. »
Continuity will be an asset for Sauber next season. Monisha Kaltenborn understood this well and hastened to announce the contract extensions of her two drivers for 2016, as an obvious decision: “We are very happy to extend the contracts of Marcus and Felipe. This early announcement proves that our two drivers and the team are moving in the same direction. We have full confidence in their talents and abilities, and both have demonstrated solid performances, gained experience, and learned quickly.”
