A threatened weather, Hamilton retains his victory in Monza

The Mercedes team was worried after the arrival of the race at the Monza circuit. An FIA investigation regarding abnormally low tire pressures on the cars of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg could have deprived the Briton of his victory.

However, the Federation decided not to sanction the German team and urged Pirelli to provide clarifications and to clarify its position, as it explained yesterday afternoon in a statement: « The stewards determine that the pressures were at their minimum recommended by Pirelli at the start. The heating blankets had been disconnected from their power source in accordance with the procedures, and the tires were significantly below the maximum allowed temperature at the time the FIA took the measurement on the grid, and at significantly different temperatures from other cars checked on the grid. The stewards decide not to impose a sanction. However, the stewards recommend the tire manufacturer and the FIA organize further meetings to provide clear guidelines to the teams for the measurements. »

A decision experienced as a relief for Mercedes and Toto Wolff: « We were exactly at the minimum recommended pressure when we put the tires on the car. I don’t know how the malfunction appeared, but it was not a mistake on our part or an order to gain any advantage. We need to talk about these procedures in the future. »

The results of this Italian Grand Prix will not be affected, so Lewis Hamilton retains his victory.
