Free Practice 2 – Russian GP – Massa Leads in the Rain

The rain stopped this afternoon, but the Sochi track remains drenched. It will therefore take more than half an hour to have a first timed lap during this second free practice session of the Russian Grand Prix.

And it’s Fernando Alonso’s McLaren, with a time of 2:05.599, that stands alone at the top of the timesheet. A series of laps will see him improve to reach a time of 2:01.077…

Very few drivers will follow Alonso on the track. Valtteri Bottas is struggling the most to keep his Williams on the track, and a few other rare daredevils will imitate him, such as Sebastian Vettel, the two Toro Rossos of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz, Daniil Kvyat in his Red Bull, Jenson Button with his McLaren, and Felipe Massa, who will record the fastest time of the afternoon.

Once again, the rain did not allow for a clear hierarchy to be established. The Friday at Sochi did not provide any particular insights.
