Mercedes: No team orders planned for the final GPs

With both world titles, driver and constructor, in the bag, Mercedes might be tempted by team orders to help Nico Rosberg secure second place in the championship. But according to Lewis Hamilton, this plan is not on the agenda at all.

Mercedes: No team orders planned for the final GPs

During the Russian Grand Prix, the Mercedes team secured their second consecutive Constructors’ World Championship title thanks to another victory by Hamilton.

Two weeks later, it was the same Lewis Hamilton who, with his victory in the United States, clinched the driver’s title, his third since his Formula 1 debut in 2007. But for his teammate, Nico Rosberg, the situation has not improved. Overtaken by Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari in the world standings, the main loser of this 2015 season would still like to finish the year in style, in second place in the championship.

Lewis Hamilton’s assistance could then be important in securing this runner-up position. However, it seems that the Briton and his team have no intention of giving Rosberg a helping hand during the last three Grand Prix of the year: « The team has not asked me to help or to play any particular role. I’m here to win races. The team has already won the constructors’ championship, so it won’t be much of a benefit for them if I start helping. But we’ll see what Toto [Wolff] wants me to do. » said Hamilton on the sidelines of the Mexican Grand Prix.

The rest of the championship will therefore take place in the most normal way possible for the brand new 2015 world champion. His approach to Grand Prix weekends will remain the same: “I generally have a fairly balanced approach to each race, a balance between taking risks and not taking too many. So I don’t think I will change that, as it has worked quite well for me this year with these 10 victories.”

« I remain the same, there is no pressure but I will try to enjoy this moment. » he concluded.
