Alfa Romeo considers a return to F1
In a global strategy to return to motorsport, Alfa Romeo, owned by Ferrari, is seriously considering a possible presence in Formula 1 in the near future.
The big boss of Ferrari, Sergio Marchionne, who is also at the head of FIAT/Chrysler and Alfa Romeo, expressed interest in Alfa Romeo’s presence in Formula 1.
A global strategy aimed at reintroducing the legendary Alfa Romeo brand into motorsport and therefore into Formula 1: « In the idea of reestablishing itself as a motorsport brand, Alfa Romeo can, and must, consider the possibility of a return to racing and Formula 1. How? Probably in collaboration with Ferrari. »
A collaboration that might suggest Ferrari engines could be sold to other teams under the Alfa Romeo name. However, Marchionne’s strategy is not yet clear, and he is not ruling out a larger investment from Alfa Romeo in the development of its own engines or even chassis: « Alfa Romeo is capable of making its own chassis and engines. »
« It is important to bring other manufacturers into Formula 1. And I would really like to have them in Formula 1. » he specifies.
