Nico Rosberg: “We were quick over one lap and also on long runs”
As in Melbourne two weeks ago, the two Mercedes dominated the competition. Nico Rosberg, building on his victory in Australia, recorded the two fastest times in the free practice sessions.
It seems that nothing can impede the progress of the two Silver Arrows. Once again, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton dominated both practice sessions of the Bahrain Grand Prix, leaving their closest rivals more than a second behind.
Confidence reigns in the Mercedes camp, as Nico Rosberg cheerfully points out: “I couldn’t wait to get back in the car after the excellent weekend in Melbourne and I feel very comfortable here. It’s an encouraging first day for the team. We were fast on a single lap and also on the long runs. So I’m looking forward to qualifying and the race. I love this track! It’s going to be a very exciting weekend!”
Second behind his teammate in both sessions, Lewis Hamilton remains confident he can take back the lead as soon as tomorrow: « Overall it’s been a good Friday for us. The car is working perfectly well here. There were no surprises or problems during the two sessions, which is a pretty good sign. Understanding the tires was key to our work today and it will be very important for the rest of our weekend. There’s going to be some work overnight to refine certain things, especially with my driving style. But I’m looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow and making progress. »
